Mt. Vernon, Washington from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's our last morning on the road. We've crossed the border into the United States, and we're here to stay for a while. Probably a long while. We'll be doing more traveling eventually, but we have no plans to travel internationally at this point.

After the heat of the day before, we got on our way early. As it turns out, it never got very hot yesterday, but we took no chances. We needed fuel, and the cheapest fuel was down the road in the Ashcroft First Nation territory. As we drove ...

Meziadin Lake Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Today we find ourselves in a really beautiful provincial park in British Columbia.

This is the view from our window.

When we left Dease Lake yesterday, Smitty was comfortable in his usual riding chair.

Sadie was enjoying the morning sunshine. We hated to disturb her, but the catio must come down.

In our travels, we've enjoyed the changing of the wildflowers. We started with scads of dandelions.

Moving next to lupine.

From there, the fireweed still blooming in abundance.

And the newest wildflower to make the scene is Indian paintbrush.

We saw just a few ...

Dease Lake, British Columbia, Canada from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We traveled some new road yesterday via the Cassiar Highway. Some of you might know it better as British Columbia Hwy 37. We caught one last glimpse of the Teslin River as we drove away.

About a half hour down the road, we stopped at a rest area to use their facilities. We found this map showing where we were headed. We would be stopping in Dease Lake by day's end. We got a chuckle out of "Smithers" to the south there. It's one of Smitty's nicknames.

Swift River, Yukon Territory, Canada from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We took an easy day on Thursday. Now we're rested up and ready to make our way home. From here on, we'll be driving, driving, driving and we'll expect to reach home by August 2nd. There will still be a little bit of summer left for us to enjoy when we reach our own place. For now, we find ourselves in a rustic RV park in Swift River, Yukon Territory. Sorry for such a crappy picture. Sometimes I have to be quick with my shutter finger.

And I was wrong again (hard to ...

Return to Whitehorse from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Since we're backtracking over ground already covered, I don't have a lot to tell you this morning. We left Pine Lake campground under dark skies, and it rained hard at times. Night time rains seem to be the rule around here...for the moment, anyway. The clouds were low, and some had settled into the valleys.

Like our drive from the day before, the sky started to lighten approaching the noon hour. Eventually, we were in sunshine.

We're staying at an RV park here in Whitehorse that has a food truck serving sandwiches ...

Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. When I left you yesterday I wasn't sure where we'd be this morning. The road between Chitina and Tok was rumored to be very rough. From where we started, we had 200 miles to drive. Depending on road conditions, that can be a short day or a very, very long day. The road was bad, but only in an annoying way. We got tired of bouncing over bumps and frost heaves, and our speed was much slower than a usual driving day. Nevertheless, by the time we reached the halfway point, it was clear ...

Lu-Lu Belle Cruise from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As I mentioned yesterday we took Mike's truck in to have the air conditioner looked at this morning. We're hoping we can get it going again for the trip home. Now, we wait for the verdict. So, I'm a little late with my post this morning, but I have so much to tell you. You'll probably want to fill your coffee cup for this. Let's get started.

Unlike our previous cruise, this one started at the very civilized hour of 10:30. We arrived early to collect our boarding passes and ...

Sights Around Valdez from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning. Happily, I was able to move our Lu-Lu Belle cruise from tomorrow to today in order to take advantage of the better weather. We'll still probably spend the day under cloud cover, but we're not expecting any rain.

Yesterday we toodled around Valdez for a bit to see what's going on around town. In the image below, you can see that it claims itself as a Coast Guard town with that sign on the right side of the arch.

And sure enough, there's where the Coast ...

Valdez, Alaska from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our drive wasn't particularly long yesterday, but it was made longer by the crappy roads we were traveling. It was a beautiful day though, and we drove through some of the more spectacular mountain vistas we've seen in Alaska. This morning, we find ourselves in Valdez.

We had a slow morning, and then had to hurry-skurry to get out of the previous place on time. We were bothered by hoards of biting flies. They chased us into the truck and clung to the windows as we drove away. It's a scary world insect-wise ...

A Lake, a Farm, and a Garden from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a lazy morning yesterday. We got up early enough, but then Mike and Smitty went back to bed. While they slept a little longer, I finished of the 7th of the Raggedy and Friends blocks.

Here are the blocks I have for this quilt so far.

When everyone was finished with their beauty sleep, we took off to find the Matanuska Glacier overlook. Well. That turned into just a slight fiasco. Before I tell you about what went wrong, just take another look at this mountain. Yes, it's the same one we saw ...
