A Day of Rest from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a day off yesterday. It was a day off except for going to the grocery store. Fortunately our list was short. The grocery store here was so small we were only able to get about half of the items on our list. They didn't have "exotic" things like radishes, and so we'll do a little more grocery shopping in Paducah today. Oh yes, and did I say Paducah? Yes, today is quilt show day. I've been looking forward to attending the quilt show in Paducah for about 16 years...as long ...

Eddyville, Kentucky from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends it's a misty morning here in Eddyville. It's been a while since we saw fog like this. This is what I see through the window as I write.

Backing up to East St. Louis, this was what we saw on our last evening there. The kitties were all about this. There were two rabbits, but one ran away too fast for me to capture him in my picture.

We spent our last morning resting up for the drive...just over 200 miles yesterday. Smitty likes this quilt.

Sadie was gathering the morning rays in ...

Gateway Arch National Park from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. What a fabulous day we had yesterday! Sit back, and I'll tell you all about it. There were a couple of different ways to get to the national park from where we're staying. After studying the different ways, we decided to use the shuttle provided by the RV park. They already had some folks going over at 10:00 a.m., and so we decided to go along with them.

Our boat tour would board at 1:15 p.m. In the meantime, we could kill time seeing the arch and the museum, and ...

St. Louis, Missouri from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. That title up there is a lie. When we took off yesterday, I was unaware that the City of St. Louis spans two states. As it happens, we're staying on the Illinois side in the little town of Cahokia, Illinois. Apparently, Cahokia is also known as East St. Louis. No matter. We can see Missouri across the river from where we are.

So let's talk about yesterday's drive, shall we? We headed out US 65 until we reached I-44. The road looked like this most of the way, and we were to stay ...

A Hike and a Quilt Shop from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a day of running around Branson yesterday. There were four items on our to-do list, and we accomplished all four.

The morning started with me taking the first stitches on the third block for Grandpa's Bridges. Somehow it seems like the right trip to have started these embroidered quilt blocks.

Sadie was just settling in for her morning nap when we left the RV.

On our way to the quilt shop, we spotted this guy. Yeah...I don't know.

Someone on Facebook posted about visiting this shop in Branson. It looked like ...

Top of the Rock: Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum from ... Cat Patches

Good morning again, my friends. If you can stand me yammering on for a little while longer, I'll tell you about the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum. It was a part of the larger Top of the Rock Ozarks Heritage Preserve. The Preserve is the work of the Pro Bass shop guy, Johnny Morris. Golfers Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer also had a hand in its creation.

We first walked around the outside of the building for a bit. Here's the image of the chapel I promised you in my previous post. Weddings are held here sometimes.

Branson, Missouri from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to the "Show Me" state. Just now I had to inquire of The Google to ask why Missouri is the "Show Me" state. I found a couple of answers right here.

We backtracked our way out of Arkansas's state park yesterday. Fairly soon, we found ourselves crossing over the Arkansas River.

Looking out my window, it looked like this. It's a fairly large river.

Looking out Mike's window, it looks like this:

The Arkansas River is the same river we saw when we visited the Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City ...

A Hike and a Half from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's time to move along again. By this afternoon, we'll be in Branson, Missouri, and we'll be adding another new state to the map. I'm telling you, the thrills never end here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. We've enjoyed this state park very much. Mike said this morning that he could stay here longer. But with apologies to Robert Frost, we have promises to keep, and miles to go before we sleep.

We spent our last day well. Altogether, we probably hiked about 5-1/2 miles. It took most of ...

Quilt Shop: Hickory Hill Quilts; Hot Springs, Arkansas from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. We've had a good day here at the state park. I'll tell you about this morning's hike in tomorrow's post. For now, I want to back up and tell you about the quilt shop. We needed to kill some time between checking out of the Hot Springs KOA and checking in at the state park. A quilt shop seems to me to be the perfect way to kill some time. I selected this one for its proximity and for its large parking lot. Since we'd checked out of the RV park ...

Hot Springs National Park: Part Two from ... Cat Patches

A second good morning to you, my friends. This is Part Two of our visit to Hot Springs National Park. You can find my Part One post right here. So let's start again at the beginning of Bathhouse Row.

We were preparing to walk this main walkway along the bathhouses.

This first structure was "Superior Baths." It was a bathhouse, restaurant, and craft brewery. We had lunch here on the walk back. I was hoping to pick up a t-shirt for Erik here, but the only one in his size was kind of dumb. I passed.
