Boulder City, Nevada from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to Boulder City! Sorry for the blur in the next image. For as many years as we've been coming here, you'd think I could get an in-focus picture of this sign. But, no. I must have a half dozen pictures that look a lot like this one:

It was a long day of driving yesterday, and through a desolate landscape. It'll be our longest driving day for this trip. As we were heading north on I-15, I noticed the roadside daisies are starting to bloom. We didn't see these when ...

One Last Afternoon with Friends from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's our last morning in Escondido. Some of today will be spent preparing to leave for Boulder City tomorrow. Probably I'll have a little time for sewing today. As long as I have to put everything away, I might as well get it all out again one more time. Wouldn't you agree?

So we had a casual sandwiches-and-wine day planned with our friends Debi and Jim yesterday. Before we left, I spent some time on my slow-stitching, finishing off what's in my hoop.

Now I've moved my hoop more to the ...

San Diego Botanic Garden from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The clouds cleared off into a beautiful and warm day yesterday. It was a good day for an outing to the San Diego Botanic Garden. We've visited the garden before, but you'll see different things at different times of the year. Before we left, I made the correction to Block 12 from the Raggedy project. I like this better:

As a reminder, this was how it looked before:

Okay, and then we headed out to see the garden. We took a lovely road, mostly avoiding freeways, which took us through some unfamiliar parts of ...

Temecula, California from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The day got off to an exciting start yesterday. Finally, finally, finally, we got some action at our seed feeder when several house finches showed up to our table.

They would like to have driven the kitties absolutely INSANE!

So, we left them with birds entertaining them, and headed out for our planned excursion to Temecula.

As you can see from the sign above, Temecula was established in 1859. During the mid-1800s, the Butterfield Overland Mail company contracted with the federal government to deliver mail and goods. Temecula was one of the stops along the Butterfield ...

Friends and Wine from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The weather took a little turn yesterday. It was cloudy much of the day, but there was no rain. Definitely the temperature dropped a couple of degrees. Nevertheless, we had a very nice afternoon with our friends, Debi and Jim. Debi is looking a little perkier than she was the last time we saw her. We're very hopeful her recovery will continue on the path toward wellness.

The evening before, we received a text from them suggesting two wineries: Cougar and Robert Renzoni. Mike suggested starting at Cougar since we've been to Renzoni before ...

A Day for Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning...mainly because I didn't do much yesterday, but also, because we're heading out. I'll tell you what we're doing in a minute. I'd planned to get out my sewing machine yesterday, but then we were slow getting out the door in the morning. We didn't even get home from the grocery store until after 2:00. We still had to put away the groceries, and we had to eat lunch, and we needed naps...obviously. (Priorities, People.) So, by day's end, I hadn ...

Hummingbird Wars from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another day of beautiful weather here in Escondido. We had a lazy morning, and then met up with our friends Debi and Jim for lunch.

Before that, though, we were treated to the arrival of the hummingbirds. When we stay in a place for more than just a few nights, we hang a hummingbird feeder and a seed feeder on our window. We were delayed for a week while Mike fixed the slide, but we hung these feeders about a week ago. There's been no activity at the seed feeder yet, but the ...

Duck, Duck, Goose from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I told you we were going to take it easy yesterday, and boy, did we. Even the kitties napped most of the day. The only somewhat productive thing I did was to get outside with my Olympus DSLR, mounted with a 50mm 1:2 macro lens. So, if you're looking for me to say something pithy today (as if), you'll be disappointed. Instead, I'll just show you some of the things I saw on my walk. Here's the thing about macro photography: to my mind, it's about extreme close-ups, texture, and ...

Oceanside, California from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another beautiful day here in Escondido. We're meeting up with some friends for lunch in a couple of hours. Aside from that, there's not much going on today. As for yesterday's wanderings, I took the first stitches on the smaller embroidered section for Block 11 of Raggedy & Friends.

We were meeting up with friends for lunch at the Oceanside Broiler near Oceanside Harbor, and then we were going to walk on the Oceanside Pier. When we left the kitties, they were clearly distraught about being left alone for a few hours ...

Back in Business from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm happy to say we've banished One Drive from the laptop for the second time. Strangely, there was, for a while, a folder marked "One Drive." There was nothing in it, and anything related to One Drive had been disabled. Still, if we deleted the folder, it would reappear within just a few seconds. Kinda made us wonder why Microsoft wants in tentacles in everything we do. Weird. But you’ll note that was all in the past tense. Mike spent some time watching a video that told him how to delete it completely ...
